Somalia’s military tribunal sentenced five suspects to death Saturday for their roles in the recent deadly suicide bombings in a southwestern city that killed at least 30 people, Horseed Media reports.
Hassan Ali Nur Shute, Somalia’s military court chief said that evidences were found that the suspects had a hand in the suicide bombings claimed by al-Shabaab.
The military court also gave one other suspect a prison sentence of three years.
The men were arrested by security forces moments after the attack.
On the evening of 29th February, a suicide bomber blew himself up at a restaurant where people were watching a football match. The attack was followed by another one which occurred at a busy junction.
Somalia uses its military court to punish members of al-Shabaab militant group which wants to overthrow the government and its soldiers who commit heavy crimes. But the court has also prosecuted civilians who have been accused of minor cases and later on went to face harsh punishments.
