Somalia: Former Defense Minister killed in Mogadishu car bombing
Former Somalia’s Transitional government defense minister was killed in a bomb planted in his car on Monday in the capital Mogadishu, officials and witnesses confirm.
Muhidin Hassan Haji, died after a bomb planted in his car exploded while driving at one of the popular Mogadishu streets.
‘’The bomb was placed under the car seat and another person riding with him was seriously wounded,’’ said one of the witnesses.
Extremist group al-Shabaab, which carried series of attacks in the Capital, took the responsibility of this attack.
Somalia’s Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid condemned the attack and promised that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
Al Shabaab insurgents have staged a string of assaults in their fight to overthrow the country’s internationally-backed government. They have targeted hotels, the international airport, Villa Somalia, a United Nations compound and restaurants in a bid to discredit claims by the authorities and AU troops that they are winning the war.
