Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud on Friday officially inaugurated the refurbished Bosaso international airport in Northern Somalia which has been modernised to international standards.
Delivering his speech at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, President Mohamoud stressed that this is one of the ‘’big achievements’’ reached by the Somali people.
‘’This is a major step forward to the country’s development and shows how we are all committed to build the important infrastructures of our nation.’’
President Mohamoud added that the Federal government will handle the remaining phase of the renovation project.
Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali expressed satisfaction that the successful upgrading of the Bosaso Airport would enhance its capacity to handle increased air traffic from within the country and internationally.
‘’The largest type of passenger and cargo aircraft will now be able to land at this Airport. This presents enormous opportunities for trade and investments.”
Mr Ali pointed out that his administration has put emphasis on the development of aviation infrastructure in the country, with recently launching a project to renovate Garowe airport, the state’s capital.
Other Speakers included the ambassadors of China and Italy to Somalia, Former Prime Minister of Somalia Ali Mohammed Geddi, Former Puntland President Abdirahman Farole, King of the Darod Clan, local elders, representatives from different communities who all of them expressed their delightfulness towards the completion of this megaproject.
The upgrading works of Bosaso airport was launched in December 2014 and accomplished last month. The project was undertaken by China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC).
Located in North-eastern Somalia on the Gulf of Aden coast, Bosaso is the third largest city in the country and it is the economic heart of Puntland State with a major seaport.
