The President of South-West regional administration of Somalia has survived an attempted assassination after a roadside bomb hit his convoy on Monday, witnesses and officials said.
The bomb, hidden by the roadside in the outskirts of Mogadishu, damaged a car in the vehicle convoy that was carrying Mr Sharif Hassan as he came back from an official visit to Afgoi district, which is part of his administration.
Spokesman of the regional administration Abdulkadir Nadara told local media that the President was ‘’fortunately’’ not hurt in the attack.
According to further reports, several bodyguards were injured in the blast though the Spokesman declined to confirm it.
No group has immediately claimed the responsibility of the attack, but such attacks are being carried out by the extremist group al-Shabaab.
Sharif Hassan, a former Parliament Speaker, was elected to as the President of the South-west state last year in November.
