Somalia’s national Bandy team participating in the world championship taking place in Russia is yet to win a match since the competition started.
On 11th February, Somali Bandy team met with the teams of Ukraine and Mongolia. Both games were lost by the team, though they displayed an impressive performance.
The match with the Ukrainian team was tense and interesting. Somalia players were dominant in the first ten minutes. The match ended 0:8 to Ukraine.
Coach of the team Alexander Tarasenko said after the match: “The most important thing in this game players worked as a real team. And despite all dropped balls they really started to play defense”.
The game against Mongolia was a match the Somali team delivered the best display in a bid to snatch the maximum points. The Somali players wasted a string of chances which would have decided the game.
In the end, the Mongolian team won 9:1.
On the 12th February, Somalia team faced the Japan team which won 10:0 for Japan. On the same day, Somali team played against the team representing China, which qualification and level is compared to Somali bandy team.
The Somali team managed to score three goals, the highest they have scored in a single match in the tournament. But the Chinese team managed to win 8:3.
“We took into consideration. That China is a team we are able to compete with. And after difficult Match with Japan team they were tired. We hoped even to tie the score. But even what we could do is a big success for Somali bandy team”, said Coach Alexander said.
On Saturday’s evening, Somalia bandy team will play it’s last game in the championship against the loser team of the Hungary and Czech Republic match.
