Somalia, U.K. sign MoU on security cooperation
Somalia’s Federal government and the United Kingdom signed a Memorandum of Understanding on security cooperation in Mogadishu.
Defense minister Abdulkadir Ali Dini and UK ambassador to Somalia Harriet Mathews signed the agreement after holding a meeting yesterday.
During the talks, the two sides reviewed initiatives to expand and enhance cooperation in combating terrorism, which poses threats to the country and globe.
Addressing Journalists after the meeting, Somalia’s Defense Minister said that the agreement will help to strength the country’s security sectors and enable both sides to defeat the extremists.
Ambassador Mathews, meanwhile, stressed that her government will continue to support Somalia on the stabilization efforts.
Last year, British Prime Minister David Cameron announced that up to 70 personnel will be sent to Somalia to help peacekeeping efforts to counter al-Shabaab militants.
