Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed on Thursday in a phone call with his Somali counterpart President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud the latest developments and steps taken to restore stability and security in Somalia, the Egyptian presidency announced.

“The Somali president reviewed the latest developments of the situation in his country, and the steps being taken to restore security and stability in Somalia and to overcome the various challenges facing it, foremost of which is the threat of terrorism,” Bassam Rady, the presidential spokesperson said.

According to the presidency, President Mohamud expressed how his country is keen to boost consultation and coordination with Egypt on different regional issues of common interest.

He also expressed interest in boosting bilateral cooperation on different levels, praising the historical relations between the two country’s as well as Egypt’s historical support to Somalia.

On his part,  President Sisi affirmed Egypt’s pride in its historical relations with Somalia, and its keenness on the interests of the brotherly Somali people within the framework of a unified, stable and strong state, as well as supporting Somalia to deal with the various challenges it faces, especially the threat of extremism and terrorism.

Sisi also pointed out to Egypt’s readiness to continue providing support to Somalia to build and consolidate its institutions, and to activate various aspects of bilateral cooperation with Somalia, especially at the economic and commercial levels.
