Egypt sent to Somalia on Sunday two military transport planes carrying medical aid and evacuated wounded Somali army recruits for treatment in Egyptian Armed Forces hospitals.

According to the Egyptian Armed Forces, the evacuation of Somali army recruits who were wounded in a terrorist attack Sunday came following following the directives of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi

“The Medical Services Department immediately elevated readiness condition in the Armed Forces hospitals, to which the injured were transferred through a number of medically equipped ambulances and provided them with all aspects of medical care,” the Egyptian Armed Forces said.

This comes as an affirmation of the strength of the historical ties that unite Egypt and Somalia and rising from Egypt’s leading role towards the countries of the African continent in various circumstances and providing them with full support and solidarity, the Egyptian Armed Forces added.

On Sunday, at least 15 people were killed, and others were injured in a suicide attack by the Somali Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab targetting a group of new recruits who were enrolling at the Nacnac military base in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
