Djibouti President Ismael Omar Guelleh has called for the Kenyan authorities to stop ‘’discrimination’’ on Somali refugees and respect their rights.

Speaking for the first time on the Kenyan crackdown on Somalis in Eastleigh suburb, Mr Guelleh said that not all Somalis are ‘’criminals’’.

‘’ The Criminals should be arrested and taken to justice or even deported, but Kenya should be able to differentiate the criminals from the ordinary people,’’ he said.

He praised the Kenya government for its role in the peacekeeping efforts in the war-ravaged Somalia.

‘’ Kenya has really welcomed and assisted Somalis in its country,’’ he added.

International Human rights Organisations and prominent politicians have criticised Kenyan government on the Eastleigh operations.

More than 1000 Somalis have been detained since the beginning of last month, while also more than 150 people have been deported back to Mogadishu.
