Reports of Shawwal moon being spotted

Published: July 27, 2014

Shawwal moon was reportedly spotted Sunday, indicating Eid al-Fitr will begin on July 27, an Al Arabiya corresponded reported, awaiting an official announcement from Saudi Arabia.

Eid Al-Fitr marks the end of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan and last three days.

Determining the exact date depends on observations of the Shawwal moon.

The moon sighting committees in UAE and Saudi Arabia were meeting Sunday in their respective countries to witness Shawwal moon.

Most of the Arab, European, American and Canadian Muslims celebrate the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr on the same dates as the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
