The Somali forces with the help of local militia known as (Ma’awisley) have taken over several areas from Al-Shabab in Bulo-burde district of Hiran region.

The Somali National Army claims to have killed more than 30 Al-Shabab militants in an operation carried out on the outskirts of Bulo-burde town.

Somalia’s Ministry of Information said the operation was carried out at night, after the army received information on the whereabouts of members of Al Shabab in the area.

The government said five of its soldiers were injured in the operation.

The Hiran region in central Somalia, has seen an increase in military activity this month as the army claims to have liberated several villages from the al-Qaida-affiliated al-Shabab group.

Somalia’s new president, Hassan Sheikh Mahamud, who took office earlier this year, announced that his government would wage “total war” against the al-Shabab network after the group staged a deadly hotel siege in Mogadishu that left more than 30 people dead.
