Somalia: Deadly Al-Shabaab Ambush Rocks Lower Shabelle Region

Mogadishu, Somalia (Horseed Media) – The Lower Shabelle region of Somalia witnessed intense fighting on Saturday morning as al-Shabaab militants launched a deadly ambush on a joint security operation near the town of Dhanaane. The attack, which targeted government forces in the Buslee area, has reportedly resulted in significant casualties.

According to initial reports, the assault began with a series of explosions detonated by al-Shabaab militants, catching the security forces off guard. The targeted units included forces from the Haram’ad militia, Duufaan militia, and the police-military , who were conducting an anti-al-Shabaab operation in the region.

Preliminary assessments indicate heavy losses among the government troops, with a high number of soldiers killed and injured in the ambush. Al-Shabaab militants are also reported to have seized the targeted location and set it ablaze before capturing several military vehicles.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that one of the fallen officers may be a high-ranking police-military commander.

In a press release, al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they had killed 57 soldiers and captured additional personnel. However, the extent of government casualties remains unverified at this time.
