Somali Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Axmed has appointed a new governor for the Central bank and has been approved by the country’s cabinet in their weekly meeting on Thursday.

Bashir Issa Ali, who has been the temporary governor of the Bank since November last year has been appointed as the new governor. He is the third official appointed to lead the Bank in less than one year.

In November last year, Yusur Abrar- first female appointed in one of the country’s top this jobs- resigned from her post less than two months in office, after she faced pressure from the Presidential Palace and businessmen who are close to the Somali President to sign off on corrupt deals, as she said.

The new governor has been serving long in the Bank since the government of former President Siad Barre and has studied abroad.
