Somalia: Second phase of Bosaso airport expansion launched
The first phase of Bosaso airport expansion was completed in January 2016

Puntland President Abdiweli Mohammed Ali launched Monday the second phase of the upgrading of Bosaso International Airport, the commercial hub of the Somalia’s autonomous region.
According to officials, the second phase of the airport expansion which its duration has not been revealed, will include extension of the runway from the previous size of 2.6 Kilometers to a further one kilometer, a new modernized terminal building, installation of night landing flights and improvements for parking areas for both passenger and cargo planes, parking for cars.

Delivering his speech at the ceremony held in the airport conference hall, Puntland President Abdiweli Gaas thanked the Italian government for paying the funds for the second phase of the expansion of Bosaso airport.
Italy’s Ambassador to Somalia Fabrezio Mercelli, who was among the foreign delegates attending the ceremony said he was praised with the way Puntland conducted the first phase of the airport renovation.
‘’ It’s a good example to the rest of Somalia and also East Africa.’’

Upon the completion of the second phase, the airport will be able to accommodate big aircrafts, officials added.
The first phase of Bosaso airport renovation was completed in January 2016 after it was launched in December 2014. The construction works was done by China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC).
