UAE, Somalia enhance relations

ABU DHABI: His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday received in Qasr Al Bahar Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, who is visiting the UAE currently.
Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the Somali president and the accompanying delegation and discussed with him the brotherly relations between the two countries and means of enhancing them to serve the common interests of both countries.
They also discussed areas of cooperation between the two countries in all fields including a number of development projects that were being implemented by the UAE for reconstructing the Somali national institutions and providing social and charitable aid.
Farmajo expressed his appreciation of the UAE leadership for its continuous support for the Somali people and highly valued Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed’s positive and friendly talks about Somalia and Somali people.
Later, Sheikh Mohamed was briefed by Farmajo on the Somali government’s efforts to combat terrorism and maintain security and stability in the Somali territories.
Reiterating the UAE commitment to supporting the security and stability of Somalia, Sheikh Mohamed said that the UAE under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, would continue to support the Somali people and help Somalia build its national institutions to support the country’s security, stability and development.
During the meeting, a number of the current developments and updates at the regional and international levels and issues of mutual concern were also discussed.
