The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who is currently on a four-day official visit to Eritrea, is scheduled to meet with his Eritrean counterpart Saas Afwerki today.
The two presidents will discuss bilateral relations and regional issues.
The presidents will also focus on the training of Somali troops in Eritrea, which is the main purpose of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s current visit to the country.
Somali President Hassan, a former opponent of the former government of Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, has strongly opposed Somali troops being trained in Eritrea.
Since taking office, the Somali president has embarked on a series of trips abroad aimed at strengthening Somalia’s co-operation with the world.
