On Friday, the new mayor of Galkacyo City Abdiasis Mohamed Guled and his deputy Ya’akub Mohamed Abdalla were sworn in after they were elected by the newly formed Galkacyo city council.

This week a delegation led by the President of Puntland Dr.Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas visited Galkacyo city the provincial capital of Mudug.

For the last two years the city had no functioning city council, after former President Abdirahman Farole dismissed the former council in 2011.

Since then efforts to form a new city council were hampered by clan disagreements on the distribution of the 27 seats.

The new council includes for the first time two women MP’s and the representatives of the youth.
