A roadside bomb killed a mayor and two of his guards in the outskirts of Mogadishu, capital of Somalia, officials said, the latest in a series of attacks carried by the militant group al-Shabaab.
Ali Jamiil, the mayor of Afgoi district, which is some 30KM from Mogadishu, was killed when the bomb struck his convoy on Monday.
Al-Shabaab, who is fighting against the Somali government troops and African Union peacekeepers, immediately claimed the responsibility of the attack and called the mayor ‘’apostate’’.
It is not the first time the group has killed a government official in roadside bomb attack.
Somali government officials have condemned the attack and said that they were searching for the criminals who carried it out.
