A military court in Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland sentenced 14 soldiers for staging a mini-mutiny in their Barracks, located in the port town of Bosaso.
The soldiers who were convicted are part of the Puntland Maritime Police forces (PMPF) and the hearing was attended by the Commander of the forces Admiral Abdirisak Dirie.
After hearing their cases, Court prosecute Abdifatah Haji Adan announced that each of the soldiers were sentenced to five years jail terms. But they have one month to apply for an appeal.
Puntland army officials warned other soldiers to take similar steps otherwise will face same punishments.
The Puntland Marine forces was established in 2010 and their mandate at that time was to tackle the pirates as well protect the coastal line of the region.
