In order to strengthen operations against the Al Shabaab group, the United States government donated 24 military vehicles to the African Union forces operating in Somalia.
These combat vehicles will be used by the Djiboutian contingent in joint military operations with the Somali National Army (SNA) in and around Beledweyne and other areas in the Hiiraan region.
Handing over the APCs at ATMIS Headquarter on Wednesday in Mogadishu, Larry Andre, the US ambassador to Somalia, reiterated his government’s support to efforts aimed at bringing peace and stability in Somalia and the greater Horn of Africa region.
The donated vehicles aregoing to enhance ATMIS;s counter IED capability and aid the troops in protecting civilians, critical infrastructure and sensitive sites, in facilitating the provision of humanitarian supplies and in supporting stabilization activities.
