Somalia: President’s aide opposes outcomes of national Conference on 2016 vision

Somalia: President’s aide opposes outcomes of national Conference on 2016 visionFormer Somalia’s interior minister and right-hand man of the Somali President Abdikarim Hussein Guled has opposed one of the outcomes of the recent second national conference held in Garowe.
The conference, which was discussed on ways of boosting the country’s 2016 vision brought together Somalia’s federal government President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud with the leaders of the Puntland, Jubbaland and South-west regional administrations.
In an interview with the BBC Somali Service, Mr Gulled criticized one of the points that the sides agreed on which is concerning the formation of a new federal state in the Central region.
It stated: ‘’Delegates from Mudug’s side of Puntland cannot be invited to attend the conference of central region formation’’.
‘’ The point itself is violating the constitution and also an obstacle to the state’s formation,’’ said Abdikarim, who is one of the candidates contesting for the Presidential seat of the new state to-be formed.
A long-standing wrangle has been goingon since the middle of last year over the formation of the Central region after parts of it have been included some of Puntland territories – Northern Mudug.
As stated in the provisional constitution, two or more states are only allowed to form a federal state.
Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud made it clear that ‘’no community will forcibly amalgamated to another’’ in a speech during his conference.
Mr Gulled stepped down from his ministerial post in May last year after failing to handle the growing insecurity problem in Mogadishu at that time.
